The President of Singapore dissolved the parliament on the advice of the Prime Minister and announced the date of the new election.
According to the World News Agency, the date of May 3 has been announced for new elections in Singapore. Nomination papers can be submitted by April 23.
After that, a nine -day election campaign will be run and no election activity will be allowed on May 2 so that voters can decide on May 3 without interference.
It is to be noted that this will be the 14th general election after the independence of Singapore and will be the first election after a long -term Prime Minister Lee Sen Long.
Lawrence Wong, who took over as the Chief Minister last year, wants a strong public mandate to tackle the challenges such as the economy, inflation, housing, residence changes, and the growing needs of health in an elderly society.
The ruling party PAP has also faced political scandals in recent years, including a corruption investigation against a senior minister and the resignation of the two MPs for illicit relations.
Nevertheless, it is expected that the ruling People’s Action Party will once again return to power, which has been in government since independence in 1959.
It should be remembered that the last elections were held in 2020, in which the ruling party won 83 out of 93 seats while the opposition party workers party got only 10 seats.
