Islamabad:
The federal government implemented the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) infrastructure as “sensitive infrastructure” and imposed strict punishments on cyber attacks.
According to the document available to the Express, the FBR has all the Regional Tax Offices, Corporate Tax Offices, Large Tax Offices, Chief Commissioners of Medium Tax Offices, AEOI Zones, Commissioners of Anonymous Zones, Inland Revenue and Commissioner Appeals, Appellates and Appeals, Appeals and Appeals.
According to a memorandum released by the Cabinet Division, the cabinet has approved the FBR’s IT infrastructure, including data centers, applications and all the systems that host taxpayers’ data for electronic crimes.
The purpose of this decision is to protect FBR data systems from any potential cyber attacks or unauthorized access, under which the move will take strict legal action against any individual or group who will try to illegally enter the FBR system, steal data or interfere.
Under the Electronic Crime Prevention Act 2016, such crimes can be imprisoned, fined or both.
The FBR has directed all concerned agencies and individuals to ensure full implementation of the decision and take the necessary security measures to protect the FBR’s critical infrastructure so as to prevent any possible cyber threat.
