IMF delegation expresses concerns over judicial performance, property protection right and other issues

The World Financial Organization (IMF) has expressed concern over issues that discourage foreign investment, including the implementation of contracts, the protection of property rights, including judicial performance.

According to Express News, the IMF mission in Pakistan has held important meetings and in this regard, the Supreme Court Bar Association President Mian Rauf Atta, President Balochistan High Court Bar Mir Attaullah Lango and President Sindh High Court Barrister Sarfraz Metlo met.

According to the statement, issues such as judicial performance were discussed, the IMF mission has expressed concern over issues that discourage foreign investment, including the implementation of contracts, the protection of property rights, including judicial performance.

The President of the Supreme Court Bar apprised the IMF mission of other measures, including efforts to improve judicial performance, legislation and video link facility and said that Chief Justice Pakistan is also taking steps like e-failing systems for improvement.

The IM mission was told that the 26th Constitutional Amendment aims to improve judicial sovereignty, and there is also an institutional system to examine the performance of the judges.

The meeting agreed that the solution to the problems was possible only through political and economic stability and better governance.

According to the statement, the IMF mission will also send a questionnaire to the association, which will answer detailed answers, suggestions and recommendations.

The IMF delegation met with cabinet division officials, talk about eliminating corruption and increasing efficiency, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) officials of the Mission’s Technical delegation met with Revenue Mobilization Initiative, increasing tax net and receipts, bringing the new sector into the tax net.

It was further informed that the mission has also completed its work on the review and its report will be released in July.
